ARC OF THE COVENANT

Here on the cover two angels are standing
Neither looks into the other’s eyes.
Between and above them in one graceful bending
Are two pairs of wings which they don’t use to rise but to block
Us from shoving in these mockeries we crown.
It’s the arc of the Covenant:
They go up, and then over, and down.

Here on the cover, two heavenly beings:
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Each gesture of theirs is so full of meaning
To someone I guess, a little like you and me were to us –
it’s unarguably love all around:
But the arc
of the covenant
It goes up and then over and

Time was, nothing meant more than to love you the rest of our lives
Time does have the funniest way of informing us nothing within us survives

Here in the covers, my offering that smoulders,
(a pillar of fire at night in my bed),
And the good and bad angels that hang on my shoulders,
the cloud hanging constantly over my head are to tart
Up this Nothing that I wander around.
And the arc
Of the covenant,
It goes up and then over and

Time was, nothing meant more than to love you the rest of our lives,
Time does have the funniest way of informing us nothing within us survives
And the climb that bends back to the earth from the moment it's started its climb
Of  reminding us, ever so colorfully,
It’s the fire this time.

There on the cover, two angels are standing
(though long melted down yet they're still in their place)
You may think that they suffer, their labor unending;
But it isn’t for paradise, country, or race:
It’s to mark where their lover went, it’s enough that He's found
In the arc
Of the covenant
It goes up and then over (&c.)
And down.
